Get Involved
A Project for Everyone
The great thing about Operation Grateful
Nation is that anyone and everyone can be involved. There are no
age limitations, and this can be done in a group or individually.
It doesn't require a great amount of costly resources, time, nor
technical knowledge to show these families just how much you care.
Some suggestions are listed below:
Group Project
This can be a a service project in your
community, whether it be a church group, a school, a workplace,
or a neighborhood. Remember, effective group projects do best with
some planning. Here's how to get started:
Suggested Materials:
- Postcards or blank index cards
- Pens, crayons, stickers, etc
- A poster or banner that invites attention
and describes the project.
From the Kids
You can have the kids draw pictures on one side and write their
names and ages on the other. They might need an adult to help them
with their message depending on how old they are. The children have
been especially receptive and proud of their postcards. This is
a project that they will remember for a long time, and they are
especially proud to be a part of. The pictures they draw and their
messages are truly inspirational.
From the Adults and Teens
On one side you can have your message of thanks/gratitude/hope and
on the other you can have it decorated however you want or leave
it blank. Since adults put more time into the "thought"
portion of the card, the person in charge of the service project
may even want to pre-decorate some cards (although it is certainly
not required). The goal of the project is to get messages of support,
hope, and thanks into the hands of the families.
Mailing the Cards
Since you are putting these all in a box or an envelope you don't
have to leave space on the card for an address or a stamp. When
you are done, place the cards in a box or envelope (depends on how
many you have) and address the box or envelope in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS
(or it might have a hard time getting through). The locations and
mailing addresses of the bases can be found by clicking HERE.
